We’d like to begin announcing some of the photographers who will be participating in the Reportage 2013 Festival specifically our projection night which will feature a cinematic show of documentary multimedia.

To start off we’d like to introduce Australian photographer Hannah Rose Robinson who will be involved in our projection with her work ‘The Last Nomad’ from Mongolia.

‘The Last Nomad’ is Hannah’s latest project which was completed in 2011. Expeditioning across the wild east of Mongolia on horseback, she documented the nomadic culture that exists there. The project is shot entirely on film using a Leica M6.
After completing her work in Mongolia Hannah was nominated for a chance to attend the 2012 Reflexions world Masterclass in Europe.

“The soft thud of hooves thundering upon the earth. Mongolia, with its vast and lonely landscapes, syrup eyed people and proud, wild maned steeds.
As one of the world’s last nomadic cultures, this place has always quietly called to me. The deep connection with horses, a partnership lived out in undoubtedly some of the wildest and spectacular environments on the planet, makes Mongolia so irresistible to me. But, it is also the quiet way in which the people live their lives, treading lightly, never owning the land, a deep appreciation for the earth, for their animals.

A country that is shared and protected, a nomadic lifestyle which moves with the seasons, horses at the epicenter of life. It is a culture that is changing, slowly moving way to a more modern world.

My images from Mongolia are but small vignettes of life, stories of a culture that sits poised on the edge of a knife, the last nomads.”
