The Reportage Festival of Documentary Photography, Sydney, is delighted to announce Stephen Dupont as the Festival Director of Reportage 2012. Dupont is one of Australia’s best-known documentary photographers and a founding member of Reportage.
Jacqui Vicario has directed the festival from 2000-2011 and will remain in the core creative team while she continues to live in Singapore and work on new initiatives there. Jacqui will also continue to work on Reportage spin-off projects as she did in 2010 with the Annie Leibovitz: A Photographer’s Life 1990-2005 exhibition which toured in Australia.
“Stephen has always brought his inimitable energy and ideas to the festival. It’s a coup to have someone of his calibre take it forward”, Vicario said.
Dupont’s work has earned him photography’s most prestigious prizes, including a Robert Capa Gold Medal citation from the Overseas Press Club of America; a Bayeux War Correspondent’s Prize; and first places in the World Press Photo and Pictures of the Year International. In 2007 he was the recipient of the W. Eugene Smith Grant for Humanistic Photography for his ongoing project on Afghanistan and in 2010 he received the Gardner Fellowship at Harvard’s Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology.
Reportage celebrated its decade anniversary in 2010 with an extraordinary outdoor exhibition Reportage: A Retrospective 1999 – 2009 at the National Art School in a dynamic festival program comprising evening projections, photography talks and masterclasses.
Canon Australia will continue to be the Principal Partner of the festival.
